Hypothyroid

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the body lacks sufficient thyroid hormone. Since the main purpose of thyroid hormone is to “run the body’s metabolism” it is understandable that people with this condition will have symptoms associated with a slow metabolism. Estimates vary, but approximately 10 million Americans have this common medical condition; in fact, as many as 10% of women may have some degree of thyroid hormone deficiency. Hypothyroidism is more common than you would believe, and millions of people are currently hypothyroid and don’t know it.

Some symptoms of hypothyroid might include: cold intolerance, constipation, weight gain, water retention, bradycardia (slow heart rate), fatigue, decreased sweating, muscle pain, dry skin, thin fingernails, depression, poor muscle tone, female infertility, menstrual cycles irregularities and elevated serum cholesterol.

To test if you have a thyroid deficiency, your practitioner might order a blood test to see how much of the hormone you have. The test might include TSH, free T3, free T4, and TPO antibodies levels. If the outcome of your tests might show a hypothyroid condition, your practitioner will order a tablet to take every day to help regulate your thyroid gland and get it back to functioning normally.

At One Stop Wellness we use bio-identical hormones to help regulate the thyroid function; we do not use any synthetic brand name prescriptions. We have found that giving an all natural compounded prescription helps best for those exhibiting hypothyroid symptoms.
